Courses are convenient and cost-effective, but there is absolutely no compromise on quality. Instructors for The Define School are committed to bringing students the most up-to-date information, in a format that is efficient and effective.

Lessons are delivered electronically, and they may be downloaded and saved for continued use as a valuable reference. Students and instructors interact through a private forum that can be accessed from anywhere in the world, any time of day, with no time constraints or limits. All that is needed is a computer and Internet connection and the Define School experience is available to those ready to grow in the art of Photography and Videography.

The weekly schedule and work load varies for each course, depending on the topic and nature of the class. Some courses operate with a weekly lesson delivered on Monday morning, some courses encourage discussion throughout the day with information delivered daily, and others operate via video, requiring students to watch their lesson on their computer.

As a student, you are able to go at your own pace but the most benefit will come from steadily progressing week by week alongside the other course participants. Information regarding the specific practices of each course can be found in the course descriptions under our “Classes” tab.

Photography as an artform is more alive than ever before. The current generation uses photography daily as a means of communication and connection with the world. Photography has led to astounding innovations in the field, and has also created the distinct need for relevant and practical education.

The Define School meets that need with online courses for both professionals and hobbyists. It is a place for individual artists to flourish… an online community where evolving photographers come to connect, learn and grow.

The instructors at The Define School are an astounding collection of photographers, videographers and designers. Here students learn from artists who have built and sustained a successful business in the arts and have made important creative contributions to the field.

Students of The Define School can expect to see new trends before they are worn out, learn the latest technical applications, and learn solid principles of balancing art and business. The courses offered represent a vast spectrum of subject matter, and are designed to meet the needs of established professionals, enthusiastic hobbyists, and everyone in between.

But strictly imparting information is not the goal. Our students are equipped with knowledge and then encouraged to use it and run their own path… to achieve total authenticity. Rather than learning from a book or set of instructions, the education that we provide is personal. It is an experience. The relationship between instructor and student is based on a principle of mentorship and guidance, and as students connect with other artists, they learn more about themselves.

The approval, guidance, challenges and inspiration provided by members of this community to one another completes the holistic education that we provide.

The School.
The cornerstone of The Define School is the fostering of artists. We have zero desire to create robots or require conformity to a single set of artistic standards.

What we require is more challenging than that… we ask the artists in our community to seek out their own style, interpret their own inspiration in an excellent way, and to be authentic. There will undoubtedly be instructors at Define whom you admire, and we ask that you do not take their class to be more like them. Instead, take their class to be enlightened, empowered, and to head more confidently down your own unique path.

Men and women alike crave connection with other artists and mentors. People of all ages and in all stages of life require inspiration and healthy challenges to thrive. We therefore offer this dynamic educational experience to everyone, no matter their gender, age, nationality or level of knowledge in the arts. You are welcome, and we are happy you are here.

Our Teachers.
In the spirit of generosity we work diligently to hire truly generous artists and teachers. We are founded on a principle of generosity of time, talent, and with life in general. Our instructors have a collective desire to share experience and knowledge unreservedly, and to invest in students as mentors. When this dynamic is achieved it is a true “win-win,” and both lives are changed for the better.

Our Students.
Our goal is to shrink an often lonely and isolating industry and to provide a place for connection as we challenge and encourage one other to evolve… to be better. We hope The Define School will inspire each of our students to look at their world and figure out how to make it brighter in some way. This may be by offering your artistic talents for free to an organization in need, or by unplugging to offer your family and friends undivided attention. Whatever it may be, we hope to encourage you towards integrity and contribution to the world around you.

Giving Back.
Did you know that if your annual household income is $34,000 or more you are in the top 1% of the world's wealthiest people? For most of us this is hard to fathom and we all likely have access to clothing, shelter and clean water when we need them. But for the majority of the world, reality looks dramatically different. For this reason, The Define School donates a percentage of every tuition dollar to impact others in the world in a benevolent way.
